Hannah Park Project
Hannah Park, Traverse City [Click here to view full size picture] Project Partners: City of Traverse City

The City of Traverse City retrofitted four stormwater outfalls in the vicinity of Hannah Park with devices that utilize "swirl" technology to remove a large portion of sediment and petroleum-based products such as oil, gas and grease from stormwater.

Additional restoration work we conducted with the City and the Grand Traverse Conservation District at Hannah Park include:
  • Restored eroding areas of streambank
  • Planted 1,300 feet of vegetated stream buffer
  • Installed several fishing platforms for recreational access to the river

Vegetative buffers are extremely important along rivers and other waterways to reduce the impacts of pollutants in stormwater runoff and to provide bank stabilization. Previously, the park had mowed grass up to the edge of the river bank and several areas of the streambank were eroding into the Boardman River.
